Our Coastal Western Living Room Design for Beth
We’re back with the fourth installment of the Beth Dutton Beach House series, where we’re designing a beach home just for Beth Dutton as she ventures beyond the ranch and to the coast. We showed you how to plan your space and a variety of aesthetics, now we’re ready to share with you the space we envision for Beth with decorating ideas so you can create the look in your own home!
Part of our inspiration is the Dutton Family Ranch living room. This grand space is two stories of pure rustic, western history. Vintage leather chairs, multiple seating areas, a stone fireplace and warm wood tones as far as the eye can see make for a cohesive design style. The oversized room and two-story ceilings make this a great space for large family gatherings, but we have something a little different in mind for Beth.
In Beth’s new home, gone is the dark depth of the ranch and out comes the sunlight of the coast, highlighting all those beautiful western design details. We did away with the oversized space and created something a bit more intimate, reflective of the evolution and growth of her character over the course of the hit TV show. This new look is all about simple comforts and modern luxury with a dash of rustic elegance. Welcome to Beth Dutton’s living room!
Palette Perfect: Creating the Color Scheme for Beth’s Living Room
What cowgirl has a better sense of fashion than Beth Dutton? Her style is effortless west with a touch of modern glam that we can’t get enough of and there’s no better place to bring that to life than through the interior design of her home. This cowgirl coastal look is the perfect balance of wood and woven – all inspired by intricate crossover of the textures, patterns, and palette of Beth’s wardrobe and the beach.
Lots of white and soft neutrals are the grounding force in this palette while warm beiges and browns add depth. White walls bring lightness through the room while the brown-green accent color calls us back to the Montana fields with trees for miles. The key to any good color palette is bring it into the space in the right proportions. Follow along to see how you can get the look in your home!
Bonus Idea: If you’re looking for a bit of texture in your space – any of these colors would look stunning on a shiplap wall feature, a signature detail of coastal design spaces.
Anchor Pieces That Set the Seaside Scene
Before we dig into the decor, we have some key elements of the space to select. From flooring to furniture we’ve included some great inspiration and resources for you as you seek out the perfect balance of coastal and western in your home for a laid-back look meant for relaxing..
Flooring
A warm wood floor is key to the success of this space and speaks to the warmth of the wood beams above. Wooden floors are always a great way to create a neutral backdrop and we particularly love these breezy light wood tone herringbone pattern planks for an extra layer of detail. We’re doubling down on texture with the Jaipur Living Natural Tobago Area rug. This pairing provides a light and airy aesthetic that brings natural elements to the look as well.
Furniture Features: Sofa, Chairs, Ottomans, Lamps, Coffee Table and Side Tables
Creating a beachy look inspired by the west is all about balance of palette, material, and aesthetics. Here, we’ve opted for a classic leather sofa with a vintage, worn-in feel – one might think it was a family hand-me-down from the ranch. We’re balancing this with accent chairs upholstered in a forest green hue that brings that extra touch of outdoor ambiance to the space. We particularly love the nail head details that play into the heirloom aesthetic.
We opted to feature a textured linen upholstery on the white ottoman in Beth’s living room, but this space could be equally successful with a rustic, one-of-a-kind driftwood inspired coffee table as well. The neutral color ottoman creates a sense of harmony below the feature light fixture, an antler chandelier that brings boho vibe texture and visual interest to the ceiling area of the room.
Last but not least, some medium tone wood furniture side tables and textural lamps bring everything together. We particularly love the integration of storage via the drawer and door in the Cinna End Table and how the woven texture inlay is a bit like rattan and plays off of the texture in the Cailini Coastal Table Lamp. These lamps are a classic modern coastal style, but effortlessly work with this elevated western aesthetic.
Accent Ideas For Your Home to Create a Western Coastal Living Room Design
From pillows and throws to baskets and wall art, integrating home decor ideas that will perfectly balance out our fashion and coastal beach inspiration is key to a successful space. We found some chic coastal cowgirl accents that will emphasize this unique aesthetic.
Perfect Pillows + Throw Blankets
No sitting area is complete without a compilation of cozy pillows to sink into. Integrating patterns, natural woven textures, and organic coastal or western colors is a simple way to amp up an aesthetic of any space. Pillows are a great choice when it comes to switching up your aesthetic as well without buying all new furniture and decor.
For Beth’s living room, we’re pulling in some inspired patterns, neutrals, and colors to keep it interesting. The snow leopard inspired bolster and velvet pillow bring in the fashion inspiration and coordinate perfectly with the green suede and ivory boucle accent pillows. We finished it off with a chunky wool knit blanket and an alpaca fringe throw.
Wall Art and Decor To Inspire Your Living Space
When it comes to wall art, we opted for a western themed art piece that would bring memories of the Dutton Ranch. The coastal inspired colors and neutral tones work nicely with the palette here too! When selecting art for your home, our top tip is to take your time – find pieces that speak to you and that you fall in love with.
Decor Ideas and Accents
Now comes the fun part – the details! The beauty of a rustic and western aesthetic is that eclectic details make the space feel personalized beyond the typical coastal cowgirl decor. Trays are a great way to organize yourself from the entryway to a bookshelf and your ottoman. This Faux Shagreen Tray brings in texture and color and is perfect when decorated with a little bit of greenery and personalized accents like this bison sculpture which connects back to our wall art.
Beth’s Beach House Living Room: Rustic Luxe
Creating a living room is more than just creating a living space – it’s about curating an experience that exudes peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the world. We’re confident Beth would be happy to hang her hat in this neutral toned haven at the end of each day and hope that it’s inspired you to bring the costal western aesthetic to look to any space within your home!
