Read on to find out more about everything the Rodeo has to offer and see our tips to get the most out of your experience.
Rodeo History
The Silver Spurs Rodeo is the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi, but it has humble beginnings, tracing its origins to a gathering of Osceola County ranchers in the 1940s. The group gathered initially to ride in the inaugural parade for the newly elected Florida governor, and later formed the Silver Spurs Riding club.
As the club quickly grew in popularity, the group staged their first rodeo in 1944 and several years later, they acquired the land that would house the first rodeo arena. The rodeo has grown in scale and popularity over the years, including the demolition of the original stadium and construction of a new one in the early 2000s, but the event has remained a constant in the community since its inception.
Currently, the Silver Spurs Rodeo is held twice annually, in February and June. And as the rodeo celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2024, it’s one of the county’s most popular events, annually ranked among the top 50 events sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
Silver Spurs Rodeo Events
The sport of rodeo has seven traditional events, and you’ll be able to see all of them here. Enjoy bull riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping and women’s barrel racing. Along with the traditional events, the rodeo also features a performance from the Junior Silver Spurs Quadrille Team, competitions for junior bull riders and barrel racers competing in the arena, and even a rodeo clown!
If you’re new to the rodeo experience and want to learn more about the traditional events and what to expect, the Silver Spurs Rodeo website has a great Rodeo 101 section that will tell everything you need to know. You can select any event to read about the rules and how it works.
