Singer/songwriter and Florida native Aubrey Wollet is a self-described coastal cowgirl making a name for herself in the Nashville country music scene — and it’s easy to understand why her star is rising so rapidly! With her smooth soulful voice, feel-good melodies, and plenty of beach-focused lyrics, this talented country artist should be at the tip-top of your playlist. If you haven’t dived in headfirst to the captivating sounds of Aubrey Wollett, then be sure to read on for this edition of our Mermaids and Cowgirls series. You’ll quickly see why Wollett fits so comfortably in both categories… and why she’s one of our favorite country artists to blare from barn to boat to beach house and back again!

Beach Vibes, Boots, and Musical Roots

Aubrey Wollett was born into a musical family in Dunedin, FL, a small beach town in the Tampa Bay area. Growing up surrounded by music and the water, she quickly developed a love for both. Wollett spent her childhood focusing on finding opportunities to sing at school, church, and in her community, and much of her free time was spent enjoying the beach with friends.

Although Wollett knew that she wanted to make music her career, she wasn’t sure exactly how to go about it. She decided to attend the University of West Florida to study musical theatre. But later transferred to Belmont University in Nashville and graduated with a Music Business degree.

Learning the Music Business

Wollett describes Belmont as her dream school and says that the education she received there helped her to learn how to create her own career in the music industry. While attending school, she had the opportunity to intern with various labels and publishers on Music Row in Nashville, working with some of the biggest names in the business. One of her most notable internships was with songwriter Dallas Davidson, who has written hits for Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, and many others.

But even as she was enjoying learning the business of music, Wollett says her ultimate goal was always to be able to support herself as an independent artist and sing her own songs for audiences. So after working on the business side for a few years, Wollett decided to go for it and pursue a career as an artist. With a penchant for relatable lyrics, undeniable talent with the acoustic guitar, and a catchy country sound, she hit the ground — or, in this case, the sand! — running.

Musical Style and Inspiration

Given her Florida roots, it’s no surprise that the ocean is one of Aubrey Wollett’s biggest sources of inspiration. She’s a big fan of Jimmy Buffet and Kenny Chesney, two other iconic artists whose love of the beach features prominently in their songwriting. She also names Sheryl Crow, Shania Twain, and Colbie Caillat as some of her biggest musical influences.

Wollett says that she loves writing songs that make people feel good and forget their worries, and her music is mostly about the sunshine, love, and — of course — the ocean. With song titles and lyrics that capture the easy and relaxed beach vibe that we love, Wollett is an artist who should be on any country music lover’s playlist — especially those who love the coastal lifestyle.
